Hello, Fanfiction Enthusiasts!

We are in need of your input regarding the idea of adding a new tag, specifically a tag for posters looking for fic recommendations, but do not have a preference on characters or pairings.

This new tag recommendation was suggested by a fellow community member looking to post, but felt like the tagging rules overlooked the "any pairing/all characters" poster and made it difficult for members to abide by community rules, specifically:

• Must have character and/or pairing tag
• No over tagging
• Tag what you insist on

This new tag would help posters abide by the above mentioned rules and submissions will no longer be rejected.

The only stipulation would be that posters must state they accept all pairings and characters and must not exclude any as a side-note. For example:

• If a poster sends a submission for happy fic, set in the au S7 with any and all characters/pairings. All pairings are welcomed. - This post would be accepted if they used the "no preference" tag.

• If a user posted the same message as above with the exception of dean/jo or Sam/Cas, this submission would be rejected because the user is not welcoming all pairings.

*The same thing would happen if they exclude a specific character as well.

So what do you think? Take the poll and let us know!

Comment will be screened.

Thank you,

Changed the "status: found" tag to !status: found, so it's up at the top for easy finding.

The story length: short, story length: long and story length: epic tags are just like any other tag and goes by the same rules as every other tag. If you're not specifically mentioning a story length in your request(s) DO NOT use these tags. I've been removing them from a lot of request that have no mention of story length in them.

I don't think it would hurt for a little reminder of tagging or really what to tag for.

We don't want over tagging for the sheer reason it can A) Clog up tags that aren't necessarily related to the request and B) A long stream of tags can really mess with people's friends pages when they view them.

So what we generally ask is tag for what you INSIST on not what you are ok with. So, if you have a general search for some Jared/Jensen cowboy stories. And you INSIST on the pairing of Jared/Jensen and nothing else. Then tag that, if you're ok with whoever bottoms, if one is the cowboy and not the other or you're ok with short stories or long ones. State that in your request but don't tag it as such, because if you state ahead of time what you are ok with then people will know.

Think of it this way. If you go searching through the warning: abused!dean (emotional) and you click on a post that has it tagged but then you notice the comments the post received or the post itself has nothing specifically to do with the tag, you'd be kind of bummed out. Because it was something the poster was ok with but not a requirement for their inquiries.

So you see trying to follow this line of thought when tagging better improves the organization of the tags themselves and better help you find what you're looking for.

If you are confused with this feel free to leave a comment and I can better explain it to you.

If you need help with general tagging please refer to our Sticky Post to help you. If you still need help or are confused with anything having to do with tagging please feel free to PM one of the mods (Which can be found on the sticky post) and we will all do our best to help you.

Just some reiteration of some the Sticky Post tagging rules.

Please don't just use one tag and submit your request if you're asking for multiple specific things. Tag for everything you're specifically asking for. Ex: If you're asking for kidnapped Dean fics and Jared college fics, don't just tagged for "college". Tag for Jared, Dean, and kidnapping (possibly hurt!dean) also.

Character/pairing and/or person tags are required for every post.

If you're looking for a specific fic use the "specific fic" tag.

If your request was found, edit your post to say so. Fastest way, use the "status: found" tag.

One more thing, after your post is approved look to see if any tags were added or removed by a mod, if they were take note, use it as a suggestion for how to tag in the future.

Edited a bunch of tags today.

The "character: xxx and xxx" and "character: xxx and xxx and xxx" have been phased back to separate character tags. The one I'm still working on is "character: dean and sam" with over a thousand more to go (please don't use this tag anymore). The "person: jared and jensen" tag has been phased back into single person tags.

Someone requested distinctions on the "abused" tags. I mass changed them all to "warning: abused!xxx (physical)" and went through a bit and added (emotional), (mental) and (sexual).

Added more "affliction" tags and some "career" tags.

Updated the "crossover" tags, still more to go.

If you have any more suggestions, feel free to direct them to the suggestion post, it's always open and we've had some great comments and suggestions so far. Please don't post a suggestion here on this post (it'll either be deleted or screened), I want to keep them all in one place. And if I missed one of your suggestions, don't be afraid to give me a poke, I might have saw it and gotten distracted by something else and thought I already did it.

I still see people using old tags (sometimes), so if you haven't seen the new ones I suggest you take a look at the tag post or the suggestion post.

Also a question that's been bugging me for some time. I see all these acronyms that I have no clue what they mean. So I want to compile a list and know what they mean.

The one I see the most is "LF", which I thought stood for "lost fic", but then it didn't make sense with the rest of the sentence and then I thought it might mean "looking for". Any help?

Then the next one is "LFS" does that stand for "lost fic search"?

"ISO" is that "in search of"?

Those are the ones I can think of at the top of my head, I'm sick as a dog. If you know more of those acronyms please let me know. Thanks!

I'm going to be going through the tags today and tomorrow, deleting some and combining others, maybe adding new ones. Like I've seen more than a few post asking for eating disorders, but we don't have a tag for it.

So this is a suggestion post. For tags, rules, etc. I'd like to hear your input on how to make the comm better.

Please, if you suggest a new tag, can you point me in the direction of a post you want in on? If I create a tag without adding it to a post, it stays private and only I can see it until it's added to a post.

Everything you suggest will be taken into consideration, but be aware not all of them will be implemented. The first three rules on the Sticky Post are here to stay and will not change.

I look forward to hear what you guys think.

Edit: 10/13/11

Thank you for all of the input. You guys are awesome!!!

There is now a "!" in front of some tags for misc tags. Please don't use the "!mod-post", "!tags" or "!sticky-post" ones.

New tags:

"affliction" tag for all the hurts and things of that nature.

"attribute" for characteristic tags. I didn't want to use "characteristic" cause it was too close to the character tags.

"career" self explanatory.

"creature" for the non human ones.

Episode tags are now "ep: S#xE# title"

"genre" most tags were put under here.

"holiday" for holiday fics.

"kink" got stuff added to it.

season tags are now "season: #"

"story length" long and short. Will add comment!fic and epic, when I find a post to apply it to.

"warning" for tags that deal with sensitive issues.

And I think that covers it.

edit: 10/17/11

Added "position (sex): xxx" tags

Added "altered: xxx" tags, includes "possessed!xxx" and "vessel!xxx"

added a "!" to this

Added an "abilities" tag.

Thank you all again for all the awesome input, you guys are awesome!!!

From now on requests submitted on mobile devices that say "mods I can't tag this because I'm on my phone/ipod touch etc" will be rejected.

If you are submitting a request using a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android powered devices etc) you can not just select tags. It will not go through when you hit the submit (post) button. You have to manually type them out in the tagging area and separate them with commas. This is a big thing, they need to be separated or else they come in as one huge tag. There's no excuse on this. Most of the time I'm on my phone (Android) approving and rejecting posts, and posts that need one or two more tags (or more) or the person needs help tagging, I have to manually type them in. If you're unsure about the tags, take a look at them before you start and type them in before you hit the submit button.

Another thing. When a mod leaves a comment on your post for you to fix something, whether it be your subject line, tags, LJ cut etc, you will now have 48 hours to fix whatever is wrong with your post. If it's not done by then your post will be deleted. If you need help with anything don't hesitate to ask. That is what I and the other mods are here for.

We now have a 'boys as children' tag. We already have the 'wee!chesters' tag, but that doesn't cover Castiel, Jared, Jensen or Misha as kids. I guess this tag is pretty universal in who it refers to, but it's pretty much for any request for the boys as kids.

Added a 'crossover: doctor who' tag.

There is now a 'character: dean and castiel' tag for your gen and/or episode related Dean and Cas searches.

Also fixed the tag that was 'ep:fairy tales' to just 'fairy tales' for all those searches looking for that genre.

Edit: Added: bottom!dean, bottom!sam, bottom!castiel, bottom!jensen, bottom!jared, and bottom!misha tags were added.

As said before in the other new tag post, if you're willing to go back and tag any of previous searches that apply to any of these tags that would be awesome! An easy way to do that is to type in the url bar: http://community.livejournal.com/spnstoryfinders/?poster=yourusername, and it pulls up your searches, click the one you want and click the tag icon and add the appropriate tags.

On another note, there is now a Sticky Post Here. It's now set the comm's website (cause you can't backdate in communities), so it's up there beneath the header with the 'recent entries, archive and user info' links and it won't get lost.

Last one from me for a while, I swear. =) We've added a few new tags, we have character tags for the boys, but we don't have any for their real life personas. These are for searches that have no pairing, for a story/stories that focus on one or more of the boys. Same rules apply to these as the 'character' tag mentioned here. There's no need for them if your already using one of the 'pairing' tags that has them in it.

person: jared padalecki

person: jeffrey dean morgan

person: jensen ackles

person: misha collins

Also there is now a 'pairing: jared/jeffrey/jensen' for your J3 searches.

And this isn't a new tag, but we do have a 'status: found' tag for specific searches that are found, I know most of you edit your post (which you should) to let people know, but this is helpful too.

It would be nice, if you know you have previous searches that fit these new tags, if you could go back and tag them. It's not required or anything, it'll just make it easier for everyone.
