'Ghost of Future Past' by etrix. Summary: Dean already knows that the future isn't looking good. Sam's sneaking out at night and lying about it. Dean's pretty sure the angels are dicks and that they're lying to him, too. It isn't until he gets a visit from his own ghost that he realizes just how bad it's going to get, and the future that was becomes part of Dean's memories of the past. Surely, with all that he knows, he can fix things—if he can stay alive and sane, that is.

Notes: One of my most favorite fics, and the first wing!fic I ever read, mostly on a whim. The genre didn't interest me before, but hot damn is this fic good. It's everything it's supposed to be; unlike a lot of transformation fics where it's just flavor or a means to an end, Dean's manifestation of wings is thoroughly explored, both emotionally and physically. And trust me, them wings aren't just for show. Unfortunately, this was both the first wingfic I read and the best, so there's nowhere else to go but down...

Thanks a lot for the recs! It's really nice to read your comments on why you enjoyed them. I have never read a story with Dean sprouting wings before but since you loved it so much I'm definitely going to give it a try. The last one sounds fun!

I'm definitely also interested in crossovers. The only ones I've read so far was the Criminal Minds trilogy by Kikkimax, which I found to be excellent. I would love your recs for those! I've never watched NCIS or Burn Notice but that shouldn't be a problem, right?

And yes, it can be hard sometimes to find longer gen stories, despite the massive size of this fandom. Normally it doesn't bother me but sometimes I just have this craving for a good old fashioned case fic or the like! But I guess the characters on the show have such great chemistry that it becomes irresistible to pair them up. :-)
