I’m looking for non-AU fics (canon divergence is OK) in which Dean is more than just a dedicated hunter, a caring brother, a faithful friend, someone who “is there for others”. Fics in which he realizes his own worth as a person, as an independent entity with wishes and dreams and hopes of his own. In which he realizes that it’s not Sam, or Dad, or Cas (…) who define him, that his life doesn’t always have to revolve around others. That it’s fine if it revolves around him, too.

Maybe a Stanford era fic that isn’t about Dean angsting over being left alone by Sam and John, but instead it’s about Dean actually being okay on his own. Maybe a fic set sometime during the show in which Dean and Sam go their separate ways (peacefully or not). Maybe Dean stops hunting, maybe he doesn’t... But whatever he does, whatever he chooses, he does it because he wants to.

Simply put - a fic that is about Dean, not about Dean living someone else’s life.

I’d prefer gen fics, but any pairing whatsoever is fine as long as the focus of the fic isn’t on the couple but on Dean.
