Prompt: It's Dean's first Christmas after Sam and Bobby rescue Dean from Hell (no Ruby, and if they got help from the angels rescuing Dean they don't know it). Since the rescue he's been going through severe PTSD, and doesn't seem to know where he is or remember Sam or Bobby. You can go the wild feral route if you want, but I see him as catatonic with Sam trying to bring him out of it. Then finally Sam gives him his present, the amulet he went back and retrieved. Something about that, the Christmas lights, and the eggnog start to draw him out of it.

It is a Criminal Minds crossover, and we don't get to the PTSD until the sequels... But... This fic is too good to miss. Consider watching a few episodes of Criminal Minds and coming back. Particularly, episodes 1, 2, and 14 of season 1, and episodes 17 and 21 of season 2.

Notes: Kikki's depiction of Gideon is beyond flawless. I've never seen characterization this good anywhere else. It's done with such care in every aspect- from Gideon's at times insensitive working manner to his near-limitless compassion in situations few others would be able to stomach- that I dare to say it has a purity of character the show usually lacks.

And Lord, is this fic sad. It has a happy ending, but...
