Two answers here:

1) THREE EASTWARD FROM HELENA -- apostrophee (nee caramel_maddy) -- her fic journal is maddys_slash -- has written a Western in the grand, classic old style. Very little sex in it, though it's a CWRPS, which I really don't like although this one captivated me enough to read it through without changing the names. It's that good. I could see this one being a great sweeping old Western movie except for the slashy references, and, oh yeah, one other thing.

It's a zombiefic.

YES. If Zane Grey were writing CWRPS zombiefic, THIS is what would result. Absolutely gorgeous. Can't recommend it enough.


2) smallcaps has a 'verse going with Sammy growing up with horns, black eyes and a tail, Dad doing his usual level of coping skills (at least he's not trying to shotgun the kid, just falling back on having Dean raise the more-than-a-child) and Dean trying to cope with a Sammy that makes the "real" one look like a breeze to rear.

The story you want is IF I HAD A HAMMER. A marvelous extra to this 'verse is the series of illustrations by dreamlittleyo.

Both the stories and illustrations have a wistfulness under the underlying theme. Again, highly recommended except for those squicked by the subject matter.
