Women and Supernatural
So, I've spent the past few days catching up on SPN fandom drama/wank that I've missed, having been computer-less for the last 2 weeks.  And I definitely missed a lot.  :)  Now I really want to cleanse my Supernatural palette with some fanfic.  :)

Specifically, I'm looking for Supernatural stories that deal with women.  Awesome, incredible, kick-ass, strong and non-Mary-Sue type women.  It can be het romance with an OFC, it can be Ellen or Jo or Jessica, it can be non-romantic but just have some well characterized females in a general case story.  Or it can be a nice, long crossover with BTVS, since I've never read any before, but I'm sure they must exist.  Actually, I've never really read anything that wasn't slash in the SPN fandom before, and I'm in a mood.  So, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please share.

I have a whole rec list here for OFCs who aren't Mary-Sues, to which a number of commenters have contributed.

You should also check out [livejournal.com profile] spn_women, which had a wonderful ficathon this winter and is chock-full of good canon characters, running the gamut on genre and rating.

And for some . . . well, not entirely shameless self-pimping, I have Mistaken for Strangers, which I'm told does well on the OFC front.

Did you ever read "The woods are lonely, dark and deep" (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4954718/1/The_Woods_are_Lonely_Dark_and_Deep)(yes, yes. I might have recced that sometime before...)?

Well, Kathleen Hudak, from "The Benders" is featuring strongly in it, and she is a very kick-ass character. I might like that story - and even MORE the sequel - more for her than for the Winchesters. so, you might like it (but it's LONG)

A good man is hard to find (http://community.livejournal.com/spn_gen/287772.html?thread=843548) has a strong female character, but I must warn you, we learn about her in flashbacks, so... well.

Stay (http://dodger-winslow.livejournal.com/78200.html#cutid1) has a fantastic OFC, and I love this story with all my heart. It features 10-year-old-Dean (and 6-year old Sam and unconscious John), so maybe the boys are too young?

real men don't make cheescakes (http://apocalypsos.livejournal.com/1086261.html) is a teen-chester fic, and funny. The girl is quite smart and funny - I liked her.

Accidental documentaries (http://tassosss.livejournal.com/55210.html#cutid1): As Class Historian, Antonia is determined to make the best high school documentary that anyone has ever seen, but the first few weeks of school bring to light more than expected when a freshman girl goes missing, the new kid Dean takes an interest, and old traumas may be the key to the present.

It's Antonia's POV, and though Dean and Sam appear, it is actually more about her and her friends. It's really, really good, even though their only teenagers.

I might have more, but I have no tag for "strong females" in my bookmarks. I should change that...

[livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique wrote one of my favourite OFC's ever in Structurally Unsound (http://roque-clasique.livejournal.com/7401.html), which is part of her Drive 'Verse but can be read on its own, I think. Claire is a fantastic character.

And if you don't mind self-recs, I wrote a tag to 5.03 which features Lindsay: We Will Not Regret The Past, Nor Choose To Shut The Door On It (http://ratherastory.livejournal.com/31890.html). (I think the story might be shorter than the title ^_-)

My absolute favourite is the Strangers and Angels verse, the first of which is:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2748108/1/Strangers_and_Angels

The female lead is Jo and it revolves around how the Winchesters tie into her already existing family. She's more of a mother figure than anything else and there is no romance.

I totally second this. This 'verse is awesome. And Jo kicks ass.

If you don't mind wee'chesters then you should give the Aunt Sissy stories a try. She's a very well-realised character and the boys are adorable too (even John is well-written). They're the first three stories on the author's list: Out of Harm's Way, Safe from Harm, and In Harm's Wake, all by Sylvia Bond...
