two half-remembered stories of changed perceptions
I read these two stories once, and lost them before I could save them.  Help!  It's been awhile and it's gotten kind of foggy on which brother plays which role, so when I say Dean does something it could just as easily be Sam.

Story 1: Sam is living the 'white picket fence' life in a nice house with a loving girlfriend or wife.  When Dean shows up at his door one day he either doesn't know who he is or he been out of his life for several years.  Dean knocks Sam out, and when Sam wakes up he's tied to a chair in the basement.  Dean is trying to convince his brother that the happy wife he's been living is only a fantasy put into his head by the demon pretending to be his girl.  (Can't remember if it's Meg or who.)  Sam thinks this dude is crazy, until his girlfriend attacks Dean for interfering in her plans to separate and damn the brothers.

Story 2: I don't remember the reason...a misspoken wish maybe, or an angry demon's curse, but Dean starts losing his five senses one by one, every few days or week.  Hearing, sight, taste, touch, and smell; with his brother taking care of him as he lies in bed, deaf, blind, and basically unable to move.  I think they end up at Bobby's.  I think I remember a scene where Dean suddenly losing one of his senses while he's in the shower, and he's too afraid to react.  (I can't say for sure if this one is slash or gen, but I don't think it's the focus of the story anyway.)

Is #2 definitely Dean who's losing his senses? I remember a fic exactly like what you describe, but it was Sam who was whammied. Though perhaps it's a common topic…

Was just about to say the same thing - Sensory Deprivation (http://kroki-refur.livejournal.com/50868.html) sounds like what you're looking for, but it's happening to Sam not Dean.

Well I co-wrote a story that sort of fits #1 but, Sam is with a demon pretending to be Jess... and lets Sam think Dean and Dad are dead.

The one you mentioned sounds really interesting so I hope someone finds it.

The second one sounds like one I read but with Sam losing his senses and not Dean.

I've read #2, and I know you were indeed talking about Dean--but for the life of me, I can't remember the name of that story. I'll keep an eye out for it...

Actually is this #2?: See.....Hear....Speak by Smudge93
http://www.deandamage.com/viewstory.php?sid=126&textsize=3&chapter=1
Summary: What would you take from someone that you had a grudge against?
Dean's about to find out. How would you cope in a world of absolute isolation, with only your thoughts for company? And can Sam save his brother in time. (Gen)

Request #2, this story fits that same bill as Gaelicspirit's story Sense ... http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6284190/1/Sense

In this fic, a demon injects Dean with a virus concocted by another demon. The virus is meant to shut off his senses one at a time unless the brother's can find a certain weapon the demons want to use in the apocalypse. Set in season 5, Sam and Castiel work to find the antidote in order to reverse the drug's effects before it either kills Dean, or drives him slowly mad.

Thanks, guys, for all the good stories. And apologies for taking so long to get back to you. RL on top of computer trouble, plus a new fascination with atheist podcasts kept me away from this site for a while. Found my #2. It's Deprivation by ratherastory at communitylj Sharp Teeth. No sign of #1 yet. Maybe it wasn't a story I read; maybe it was a dream from that space between between waking and sleep when my mind isn't quite sure which way it wants to go. I've had some doozies.

I'm a bit late but...HAPPY SOLSTICE, EVERYONE!!
