I know there is. It's called spn_artfinders, but it doesn't get nearly as much traffic as this comm. And I'm constantly rejecting post for people searching for art and I direct them to that comm or dean_sam, but they hardly ever repost there, so that's why I'm asking. Doesn't mean it's gonna happen, it's just a poll.
I think person tags could be a good idea, I just think we should be careful not to let it explode to having a massive amount of different ones.
The two I can think of that would be the most helpful/most used would be one for Christian and one for Chad, since there tend to be a fair amount of searches for them. Also would it be possible to have a family tag? Like Jensen and Jared's families as a whole, rather than a tag for each individual person?
I like the idea of having tags for some non-Supernatural friends like Danneel, Chris, Chad, Steve and maybe even Jason Manns and Zachary Levi and adding ones for Sandy McCoy & Jim Beaver when a fic is looking for them.
I voted "maybe" on the "name" question, because I think when people are searching for a 'lost' story that they remember contains Kane/Steve/Danneel/Sandy/ etc... those fics tend to contain sevral of 'the usual suspects' and I think a "friends/family" tag might work just fine, instead of a gazillion individual tags for each and every 'known' person. Does that make sense?
I've read J2 fics where a friend played a *major* part along side the J's (and they weren't partnered with either J) and it would be easier to find if I lost it by including that friend along with the J2's. If there was a tag for friends/family, it would have so many fics attached to it where it can be hard to find the one you're looking for.
I don't expect there to be a lot of 'non Supernatural' people who need tags.
I would love an art tag, but I'm not sure about the person tags. It would help, but there are so many tags already. I get a little overwhelmed by the tags whenever I post something.
Opening the comm up to art would just make things messier, I think. Maybe we just need to promote the art finding comm more as a fandom. :)
I definitely want some way to search for stories with non-SPN people that interact with SPN people, since they're kind of rarepairs, you know? J2 fics are a dime a dozen, but Jared/Chad or Jensen/Chris are a lot harder to find. I just hope this doesn't mean requesters will start tagging posts with those people tags when they're only minor characters...
I mean all of us need to promote it more so you don't have to personally tell all the requesters that don't read the rules that this comm is for fic. :)
You don't even know how many posts I reject a day looking for art, trying to post a fic, looking for screencaps. It gets pretty ridiculous that people don't read what the comm is about or the rules.
It's the burden of running such a large and central community, I guess. Thanks for taking up the job, btw. You and all the mods. This place would be worthless without you guys constantly cleaning the place up.
I don't think we need more person tags for people outside of SPN RPS as much I love reading about Chris Kane or Chad MM on the J2 fics I read. I can probably concede to a tag for family/friends as someone suggested. But other than that we'd probably have to rename the comm as CWstoryfinders? XD
As for pairings that have Jensen/Jared/Misha paired with other nonSPN actors, can it be a tag like jensen/other or jared/other or misha/other? Or something like that? But are there no other story finders comm for overall CW RPS fandom where people can find rarepairs like that?
I said "No" to the art question not because I'm a mean bitch (which I'm not I swear!) but because I think this would be too much.
This is a "storyfinders" comm and there is a "artfinder" comm. I would love to see the link to the other "section" more on top or something like that so that everyone can find it easier but sometimes there are so much requests and searches here and all alone for stories. I'm afraid if there are searches for art too it would be too much and people will stop reading the entrys.
I'm confused on what you're trying to say here. Are you talking about the link list on the side or the "frequently searched for" post with "others" on the bottom?
I think I mean the link list on the side so that everyone who looks for special arts can see that there is the possibility for searching through the other comm. I'm in fandom for a few years now and I didn't knew of this comm since a few weeks! So I thought maybe other people have the same problem and then they use storyfinders for that question too
I voted 'maybe' because I think you could go for a limited number of "extra" person tags; like, Danneel, CMM and Chris Kane. I don't really think you need one for Steve for the simple fact that I have NEVER read a fic that has Steve in it, but hasn't had Chris. It's like they're a pair. I'm sure there are fics like that out there, but that's just my opinion. The rest can probably be covered by the 'friends/family' tag.
I think Sandy and Jim tags are a good idea though.
Me personally, I think it would just be easier to say Chris, or Chad or Steve was in this fic instead of tagging it. I know a lot of people struggle with the tags now due to a sheer size of them. I would hate for more people to be confused, then having to reject that much more entries because they didn't tag with reals or just didn't tag at all.
I mean I understand the number of tags can be intimidating but it's not that hard to browse through them and tag your entry correctly or take a peek at the sticky post before tagging.
I can't tell you how many entries come in without tags at all, no subject lines or ten billion tags they don't need or tags that they forget all the time like the specific fic tag despite my TWO posts about using it *le sigh*
I said maybe because I find that often those people are already in the fics your going to read especially Chris Kane, Danneel Harris & Steve Carlson so for me it seems kinda pointless to have them as tags.
I voted 'yes' to the art tag question, but after reading the comments here and discovering there's actually an art finder comm, I'm changing my mind to 'no'. That comm definitely needs a lot more promotion within the fandom.
I said 'no' to the person tags, because even though I understand that it'd be useful for the frequently asked-for people like Chris Kane and Chad to have their own tags, I do think that it'd be kind of hypocritical not to have the less asked-for people. I think eventually sometime down the road the question of 'why should these people have tags and not the others' would crop up, and it would just get messy. So I'd rather we put our feet down and say no to any person tags for people not in Supernatural, or at most settle for a general friends/family tag.
