dean recs, crossover recs
Hello, everyone.

I've been looking for a nice, GEN, Dean-centric story. Being new to LJ and the surrounding sites, I can't bloody figure out where to start looking.

Another thing you Americans got right was Leverage. Are there any good crossovers with the show that you blokes are willing to recommend?

My last request: SPN fics with Death. I don't care who exactly Death is in the fic, or where he is or what he's doing, but a nice fic with Death would be awesome.

There is a general author that writes great Dean centric stories where he gets hurt or injuried and Sam has to find a way to save him. I think she has a great grasp of him as a character. She sometimes does Samcentric stories as well but I would say most are more Dean. I will give you her fan fiction profile so you can read over the summaries and see if one catches our atttention. :)

That's brilliant. Thanks a lot.

As a genfic reader myself, I know it can be tough to wade through the various authors and find the good stuff. I can recommend Claudiapriscus (http://claudiapriscus.livejournal.com/19308.html#cutid1)' stuff. Definitely check out [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time for Dean-centric stuff (h/c for the most part). Dollarformyname (http://dollarformyname.livejournal.com/18041.html) has some awesome gen stuff. [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama features a number of excellent gen fics. A lot of other fairly popular writers (as these are all pretty well known folks) can probably be found fairly quickly by checking out Delicious, and doing various tag searches. A lot of the more popular authors and fics tend to come up repeatedly, so you should find lots to start with, after which it becomes a challenge to find the lesser-known but still awesome stuff that tends to get buried and only crop up occasionally. Also check out [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen, for obvious reasons.

I came to the fandom pretty late and still find its sheer size pretty daunting, but there are definite methods to the madness, and ways to navigate the insanity. A lot of amazing comms with awesome mods make a huge difference in keeping track of it all.

That's brill! Thanks a bunch. Trying to navigate all these different places have made me completely barmy.

Daunting? Yes. Definitely daunting.

For your first request of Gen fics, I have quite a large collection here:

Here are a few classics for you:

I'd Drive All Night - http://roque-clasique.livejournal.com/5979.html#cutid1AU. "John's missing, and Dean is hurt. He hasn't gone to Stanford to get Sam... because, you know, he's hurt"

Out of the Dark - http://tifaching.livejournal.com/64042.html#cutid1 "People get misdiagnosed all the time. Especially Winchesters."

Red - http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3169840/1/ "Something evil is killing treeplanters in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, possibly the same predator that Dean narrowly escaped years before. How Grimm will things get before the brothers figure it out?"

In Reverse - http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2787883/1/In_Reverse "After Faith, a job has the boys looking for missing hikers in Wyoming. While Sam worries it's connected to what happened to Dean ten years ago, Dean wonders if Sam would be better off back in the world of normal."

Also, you can check out my Delicious account which is virtually all gen- there are a few het stories but those are very few and, for the most part, very mild.

Yes! Stanford-era fics are a weakness of mine, so that's going to the top of my bookmarks list.

Cheers, and thank you for the recs!

Absolutely read BigPink! ("Red" and all her others!)

She is, even after all those years being stuck in this fandom, one of my most favorite authors. She writes perfect stories and also gets the feeling right between the brothers.

If you like Stanford-era, check out "Fire in the Hole" as well. It's awesome

That sounds brill. :D I might as well.

Hurt Dean? Hmm... I suppose I could try. There's so many different things on LJ to see! :)

Whoa, sorry this is so late, but I haven't been on this comm for a while.

I might have something for you:

Are self-recs okay?

Leverage/SPN:
The Guy They Hired To Pull Your Ass Outta Hell
This is by far his most unusual retrieval yet. Eliot Spencer is hired to pull Dean Winchester out of Hell. Full title "The I'm The Guy They Hired To Pull Your Ass Outta Hell Job." Supernatural ep 4.01 AU, preseries Leverage
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7132324/1/The_Guy_They_Hired_To_Pull_Your_Ass_Outta_Hell

Death:
Dioscuri
In Greek myth, when the human hero Castor died, Pollux gave his twin half of his own immortality - because brothers should always share. Dean plays a game of metaphorical chess with Death to get Sam back. AU set after 5.22 "Swan Song." Crack!fic.

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! I'm going to read these right away. And as my gran used to say, "Better late than never!" :D

I'm also really late to the party, but you should check out spngenlove, which was a gen rec community that was extremely busy and popular there for a while. It kind of died in season 5, so it doesn't have any of the newer stuff, but it's a great resource. http://spngenlove.livejournal.com/tag/theme%3A%20delighting%20in%20dean is all the recs that came in during dean-focused rec'ing weeks (though I'd check out the other theme weeks too...you won't be disappointed.)

Secrets in Shadow

teenchesters, Dean centric. Crossover with White Collar, (there's no need to have seen it,though if you like Leverage you might like White Collar)

Outsider POV

Two missing girls. One murder. NYPD Detective Peter Burke is sent undercover at Gettysburg College to solve the case. He wasn't expecting to meet a young hunter named Dean or for his world to change.
