AUs from 6x20 "The Man Who Would Be King"; Destiel
I'm looking for fics that take off from 6.20 "The Man Who Would Be King", either from when they trap Cas in the fire or when he visits Dean at the end of the episode. I'm open to however much of the rest of the season the author wants to add, but I prefer it going AU from one of those spots, or at least this episode. I'm really looking for Destiel in this case (either with them in an already established relationship, which means s-6 being AU already, or starting during the fic).

Self-recs welcomed. Any size, though I'd prefer longer fics for this one.

Thanks!

Good Example: The Law of Conservation of Energy by peroxide-fic

Added Clarifying Note: I'm not so much looking for codas for this episode (though I've read some good ones) but for AU fics taking off from this episode.  But if you have some amazing ones (or vids) feel free to add them. :)

Since you don't mind self-recs, I wrote one myself not to long ago. Here. (http://messyjessy08.livejournal.com/22412.html) It is more of a coda than anything, but I did go AU with the rest of the season.

Thanks! Left a comment over there.

I highly recommend It's All in the Details (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7002492/1/Its_All_in_the_Details). It's an AU, time-travel, fix-it type thing. It's a WIP, but it's over 100k already and in my experience is updated pretty regularly. The premise is that when Cas asked God for a sign, he got one. Not explicitly Destiel at this point, but it has pretty strong overtones, so I think it'll probably show up eventually.

I can live with overtones. :) I'll start reading it, thanks for the rec.

So did you ever find anything else uber-good for this prompt? And how did you like "Details"? ~curious~

Hi!

I only read the first few chapters and really enjoyed them, but then I got a little busy with other things and was like, "ok, it's a long WIP, I'll save my place and come back later" and then didn't quite come back. :) It's saved and when I finally clean out all my bookmarks and update my rec lists I'm putting it under the WIP section so I know to periodically check back in on it, and will probably go back to reading it then. I am - even if I never sat down and finished it - and was grateful you recced it though.

Hmm, as for uber-good ones...I know I read a whole bunch from the 6.20-7.02 range, and liked a fair number of them, but again, they are somewhere in what is a very long, long, long list of firefox bookmarks merely labeled 'add' (I'm so witty with my titles) so there's no way I'm finding them until I update all my lists. After glancing around at this prompt I do remember enjoying these two especially though:

Our Bodies, Possessed By Light (http://obstinatrix.livejournal.com/110413.html)by obstinatrix (though I actually read this one earlier when I asked for a different prompt - Cas/Dean with a heavy amount of Sam interaction)

and No Other Counsel Than His Own (http://archiveofourown.org/works/347977) by NeonFox

And that is completely ignoring all of the amazing codas I read for this episode, and those in the 6.18-7.02 range.

*snort* Sorry. I feel like I gave you my life story when all you asked for was the time.

lol, not a problem. Yea, at least your bookmark folders have titles, I think I have like 3 [Folder Name]'s going on; about as helpful as my classification system gets is "Distractions>SPN" and so I'll end up with a mix of stuff I've finished, started, genuinely thought was really good and wanted to keep, or just looked interesting, haha. If I wander away from a fandom for a while by the time I get back I have no idea what's in my folders, lol.

"No Other Counsel" is depressing! ...and paradoxical, but mostly depressing.

Let's see, "Our Bodies..." I think I've read before. Does it have God in it?

Eh, I seem to be stuck with WIPs lately which is bad 'cause half the time when they're updated I have to go back and skim the preceding stuff to fully remember what's going on, so I can completely understand dropping something off to the side and waiting for it to be finished, lol.

That reminds me, you might enjoy My Name is Castiel (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7910611/1/My_Name_Is_Castiel), WIP unfortunately, but it's a s7 alive-again-Cas (along with a few other characters). I think it picks up right after 7.02, but I'm not positive. It totally works the profound bond though, and gives a reasonable explanation for soullessSam which I thought was rather good.

Our Bodies: Yeah, at the end. It's the one where Cas is in Sam's body, and it's Cas/Dean without being wincest.

I just started about ten WIPs because I've been on a Teen Wolf kick, which I really, really did not mean to do, but they totally sucked me in. Because yeah, like you said, I keep having to go back and skim them for every update, and I get impatient waiting for an update, and then in the back of my mind I'm worried the person won't finish the WIP, and I lose track of them (because it's not like I have them carefully labeled in a folder *g*), and ugh....

(My disorganized bookmarks are starting to physically pain me, there's so many of them. Of which I just added My Name because I'm trying to be really good and not start a new one, but ugh why do you do this to me? You know I'm going to click on it...)

When I finally organize the bookmarks (hahahahahaha) I'll make sure to link you some of the good codas too. And you read the peroxide one I recommended in the post, right? Most of her fics are one of my favorite kinds of SPN fics: Dean/Cas with heavy Sam.

Oh, abandoned WIPs are a crime against nature. They make me cry a little on the inside.

Yea, my method of keeping track of WIPs is usually to drop them onto my faves in ff.net and then if they pop up at the top of the list I'll say yay and go read the new chap, but even that hasn't been working for me lately. I've got about ten or so that I just haven't touched because I know catching up will take way too much time. This is what I get, I guess, for preferring fics that top 100k.

I look forward to that auspicious day, lol. Yea, I read peroxide-fic's...fic, lol. It's a really good one and I love the idea of what happens to angels when they die...I'm not sure I've read anything else of hers though, I'll have to go back and check.

LOL. I'm gonna turn it into a national holiday for sure. (Hmmm, probably if I got the day off from work I could actually sit down and start doing it, but then it wouldn't be a national holiday yet, and that's a closed circuit time loop right there.)

I got spoiled when it came to WIPs because I entered the fandom/the show around s5, so there was a lot of amazing stuff already there for me to tap into, and I didn't have to wait for updates all the time. Being in the early stages of a fandom (like Teen Wolf) is cool, but I miss having access to thousands of things already completed. (Patience? moi? I don't think so.)

Mmm, you could start with...actually, I can't even decide which one I like the best. Maybe Adventures in Diplomacy (http://peroxide-fic.livejournal.com/185233.html) (or "How Castiel and Crowley Got Stuck On Earth Helping With the Cleanup") but that one's less Cas/Dean than her others. (Still pre-slash, but most of her others are pure slash. And there's no Sam POV, which is her crack at its best, but there is Crowley's, and Crowley is awesome.)

Aeternus Eternus (Memories of You and Me) (http://fate-incomplete.livejournal.com/47486.html)

No Other Counsel Than His Own (http://archiveofourown.org/works/347977)

I also have a tag for "7x02 Fixits" (which is similar to what you're looking for) on my delicious (https://delicious.com/devoutcastian/type%3A%207x02%20fixit).

Woot, thank you for all the links. And yes, 7.02 fix-its are good too; I was recently re-watching 6.20, and so was specifically craving fics from that episode, but frankly any fix-its during that 6.20-7.02 frame are good. Thanks! :)

Slightly delayed arrival to the party – and self-rec (*blushes*) – but I wrote something that fits your request exactly, called "Hub of the Wheel (http://ivydevoss.livejournal.com/2775.html)". It's angsty – be warned.

This is awesome, I keep getting recs on old post requests. And self-recs are wonderful, I do them all the time these days. :) Thanks!
