I'm not the person requesting this recommendation, but I don't think that the story, "Good Country People" is the one they are looking for. I'm glad you rec'd it because it looks good, and I'm looking forward to diving in:-)

The story I think the requester is looking for goes something like this:

The Benders capture Dean by hitting him with their truck, and Dean getting seriously injured with a bad leg, and amnesia. The Bender's then tell Dean he is Pa Bender's dead younger brother. The family does all kinds of hideous things to Dean, and make him one of their family in mind, and body, but his spirit is still a Winchester. Sam and John look for Dean for years, and finally see him one day while he's on a supply run in a near by town. If I remember right John and Sam take Dean against his will, because he does'nt remember them. It takes them a long while to un-brain wash Dean, because the Bender's have basically turned him into a violent man hunting, and eating person. Also I think the author wrote several sequels to the story. If I'm not mistaking Missy Bender is the central evil focus, and just keeps coming back for Dean.

I'm frantically looking through my memory saves in LJ. I hope I saved the story. It may also be in FanFiction.net - I'll post back when and if I find it.

The story starts in medias res and that's why it doesn't seem like the particular one you're looking for. The Benders go to take Dean, he fights back so Pa Bender runs him down, the Benders take him anyway and in some convoluted combination of amnesia and possession, not to mention delirium from being beat to hell, Dean becomes Gabriel Bender. Missy comes into it because she's the main reason Gabriel Bender gained strength enough to possess Dean. There's a whole background story with that that I'm not going to go into. In short: the Benders are fucking crazy (Missy especially) and we'll leave it at that. It's not a series, "Good Country People" is just really long, over 100k words if I'm not mistaken. There is a sequel but it's not complete and probably won't ever be and that's the one that focuses on trying to get Dean back to who he was before.
