Looking for recommendations of good S1 or S2 Dean & Sam gen fic
I have a friend who is new to Supernatural and who is interested in reading fanfic. Does anyone recommendations for stories that take place during season 1 or 2, or are pre-series, that feature Sam and Dean and that don't involve wincest? Or, if you know of an existing list, please point me to it.

Thanks!

Hi! you can find gen fics on DeanDamage.com it is center around Dean tho but you can also look on FanFiction.Net they have alot of communities to choose from. Your friend could probably find a wealth of fics on there. I hope this helps.

Here is a preseries community from fanfiction: http://www.fanfiction.net/community/Wee_Winchesters/37006/

Crossovers also can produce some pretty awesome gen casefics. Anyhow, her are some she might like. A few of them are rather long.

In Reverse! (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2787883/1/In_Reverse) Because . . . well because it hasn't been rec'ed yet and I'm kinda surprised. Season 1 gen.
Summary: After Faith, a job has the boys looking for missing hikers in Wyoming. While Sam worries it’s connected to what happened to Dean ten years ago, Dean wonders if Sam would be better off back in the world of normal.

[livejournal.com profile] morgandawn's Recs by Season (http://morgandawn.dreamwidth.org/1176599.html) is also a pretty cool resource for beginners. It's engineered as a rec list of fics that were written when each season originally aired.

The story sounds great and I'll definitely check out that list.

I don't have tags for season, but you can check out my gen pre-series recs here (https://pinboard.in/u:rbmifan/t:category:_gen/t:fandom:_supernatural/t:misc:_Pre-Series/).

As well, this is one of my absolute favourite early season 1 fics:
His Exceptions to the Rule (http://pdragon76.livejournal.com/67281.html) - Sometimes the echo off the hills is louder than the shot.

I will check those out. Thanks!

I have read some K Hanna Korossy but I am not a fan of the FF.net format. :(

I now you said no wincest, but what about OMC non-con situations?
If that's ok then The Woods are Lonely, Dark and Deep by zatnikatel is amazingly awesome is the first in a series that gets better as you go. (The third story is set 4th season, and I'm not sure about the 2nd )
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4954718/1/The_Woods_are_Lonely_Dark_and_Deep
An au version of The Benders. What might have happened if Missy had gotten out of the closet.

red by BigPink is a super cool fic with a little bit of non-graphic preseries attempted non-con/prostitution in it
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3169840/10/Red
Somethings happening up in the woods of Washington state and Dean knows what it is even if he wishes he didn't; even if he wishes like hell he'd never met that ravenous something all those years ago. The boys work a case as tree planters.

For completely non-slash there's:

Good Man is Hard to Find by kimonkey7
http://community.livejournal.com/spn_gen/144167.html
Dean keeps his word, and ramifications scatter like salt shot. Secrets, liquor, and bad things. Whump, angst, and banter.

Home On the Highway by purple-carpets
http://purple-carpets.livejournal.com/34098.html
The Hilliards aren’t what Dean expected when the scary lady at the police station started talking about foster care.

The Tomato Plant Doesn't Grow Mangos by harrigan
http://community.livejournal.com/spn_summergen/88173.html
If you lived next door to the Winchester family in 1993, would you call Child Protective Services?

http://chaletian.livejournal.com/183623.html

High Context by taxidryer
http://taxidryer.livejournal.com/51165.html
Sam practises his "what did I do to end up with such dumbasses?" face, John is the undisputed ruler of Denial Land, and Dean is Switzerland *This might be my favourite fic ever

I am definitely going to start her out with non-slash fiction. Your recs sound great.

Everything by [livejournal.com profile] pdragon76 and [livejournal.com profile] kimonkey7. For longer stories, very emotional stories, see [livejournal.com profile] gaelicspirit. Also check out [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen. Every summer generates a new crop.

I haven't read any of those authors! I'll check them out.

Gen writers are much under-recognized in this fandom, I think. I even used to write quite a bit of it myself, once upon a time. :)

[livejournal.com profile] nearlynina recommended [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966's "Dean and the Company picnic" above (which is awesome), and I would go ahead and recommend looking through all her work. She's written a huge number of stories, and though I've only just begun to work my way through them, I haven't yet found one I haven't enjoyed. She's got them well-organized, too, into pre-series, then by season and some by theme. From what I've seen it's mostly gen, and where not, it's well-marked. This writer seems to have a gift for writing funny with heart and drama with enough humour to make it feel real, and excellent characterization.
