General/recs request : Gabriel's Vessel/ backstory  
I'm hoping the community can recommend some stories exploring Gabriel's vessel - who is/was he? How did Gabriel approach him and obtain his consent? Does he approve of Gabriel's actions?  Are there fics where he meets the boys or other Canon characters?  And/or, what about fics about Gabriel's history - when and how he left heaven and went incognito among the pagans? Hismotivations for becoming a trickster?

I prefer gen, but will also read light, non-incestuous slash or het.  Please no RPF.  Thanks in advance!!

The only thing that comes directly to my mind is Birds of Passage (http://archiveofourown.org/works/173625) by [livejournal.com profile] neotoma.
It's a post-apocalyptic Jericho crossover, Sam/Gabriel, Sam/Gabriel's Vessel.
The vessel in question got a complete backstory and personality and you don't need to have seen Jericho for reading the fic.
Even with prefering gen, this is so worth the read

Eta: this was brilliant! As you say, I was able to follow w/o knowing Jericho, and the slash was light enough, and believably enough explained, that, as you say, worth it despite not being gen. The detail built in by the author was astonishing. Thanks.
