Well, this is kind of happy. Summary: AU 5 X 04 The End fic. Dean stops his future self from sending Cas and the others into a trap and Zachariah seems to be missing in action. Dean has to figure out where to go from here. Past Dean stays, 2014 Dean dies (so not happy for him) Sam gets saved. Long fic, 28 chapters, but unique idea and good writing.

You have to make your way through bucketloads of heart wrenching angst to get there, but it does have a happy ending. It's one of the first dean/cas fics I ever read is still one of my favourites.

Author's warnings: This is future!Castiel, so be prepared for Castiel/OFCs, drug use and alcohol abuse (hey, it’s all canon!). In addition there’s the odd bit of violence, some whump, muchas porning and very brief implied non-con (nothing graphic at all). Please be warned if you don’t like death!fics that this story is set after Dean had to kill Lucifer!Sam, so clearly there’s (a) no Sam and (b) some mourning. On the bright side, though, there's also a guest appearance from a real-life Hollywood star! (Well, sort of.)

You might drown in the angst as it goes along, but the ending is positive (uh as positive as an ending can be with a dead Sam anyway)
