Here's a couple gems I liked:

Mockingbird (http://hiyacynth.livejournal.com/218645.html) by hiyacynth. It's 10 chapters, Sam/OC, AU after season 2, summary: Dean frowned and shook his head. Even if he wanted to, how could he start to explain what Sam was these days? He wasn't sure himself. He knew what Sam had been before the war. He had a pretty good idea of what Sam'd been during. And he knew Sam wasn't either of those things anymore. I think the PDF version of this has expired, but it's also available in podfic (details here (http://hiyacynth.livejournal.com/267428.html) and for sale in a print version at cafe press here (http://www.cafepress.com/fangirlenterpr.361246088).

Also, kroki_refur wrote nearly 100K of Sam 'n Jess 'n Dean (it's Sam/Jess in its roots, but well, you'll see) in Crow on the Cradle (http://kroki-refur.livejournal.com/72426.html), posted across 20 chapters. Summary: On October 2, 2005, Sam Winchester walked out of the apartment he shared with his girlfriend Jess in the middle of the night and didn't come back.

I don't know where active PDF versions of either of these might be, if any. (Perhaps you can get lucky and find something by surfing or someone else will volunteer.) I can just use squeebook.net to convert the fic into any format I choose, so it's okay. You should give it a try too, especially if you have a tablet or ereader, so you can have all your favorite fics with you on your device to be read anytime. It's pretty cool.

Have you read the
Salvation 'Verse (http://chaikhana.net/spn/fa_index.html) by gekizetsu and maygra? It's well worth the investment of time. (Sam/Sarah, Dean/OFC)

pheebs1 wrote a series of stories focusing on Dean's relationship wit Petra, beginning when they were in high school. I think you'll need to go to here LJ and follow the "petra" tag to catch them all; the first story is Unseeing (http://pheebs1.livejournal.com/?skip=20&tag=petra).
Summary: Dean falls for the girl next door, and when it comes time to move, it's him and not Sam that fights to stay, and John doesn't expect that.
