(Found) J2 AU Specific Fic + general recs
I read this fic a while back where I think it was Jensen who was a chef. He owned/worked at a organic restaurant near Seattle or San Francisco.
I think Jared was working with a farm that Jensen was trying to negotiate supplies with.

if not, any reccomendations of fics where food plays a big part in would be lovely.

Garlic and Butter

i've read that fic and unfortunately it isn't the one i'm looking for.
The roles may have been reversed and i remember it was a farm-to-table restaurant.

Well, I haven't found your one yet, but there's this one which has chef!Jared. I've not read it but I love [livejournal.com profile] frostian's work, so it's undoubtably awesome.

Garlic and Butter - http://frostian.livejournal.com/51871.html

Also [livejournal.com profile] morrezela wrote a great little chef fic - Out of the Doubler Boiler, Into the Fryer

With Abadon or Not at All (http://bewaretheides15.livejournal.com/51598.html) by bewaretheides15 (http://bewaretheides15.livejournal.com)
Summary: Jensen's life was complicated enough when his biggest worry was what crazy color his best friend/roommate/ex-boyfriend/co-executive chef, Jared, was going to dye his hair this week. Then his dreams came true and, somehow, his life started falling apart. Now he's got an insane client to please, a career-making meal to cook, a hodge-podge kitchen staff to corral, embarrassing, half-naked pictures plastered all over the internet and maybe, somewhere in there, a love of his life to win back.

Thanks for the rec!
I've read this one and I agree it is a good story.

For the specific search, could it be this one? Jared is a chef, Jensen works at the Seattle fish market

* Recipe for a Successful Relationship (http://archiveofourown.org/works/562854): If there’s one thing Jared Padalecki knows, it’s food. His butter-poached lobster with a butternut squash gratin could make you weep and if challenged he could julienne a carrot with his eyes closed. He’s at home in the kitchen and now—busier than ever with his own restaurant—he occasionally feels like the kitchen is his home. That isn’t to say he’s not happy, though—because he is. Real happy. In fact, things outside the kitchen are better than ever as his relationship with his best friend, Jensen Ackles, begins to evolve from casual sex into something more. All that’s left is to figure out how to balance his personal and professional life, which should be about as easy as the perfect consommé.

For stories where food plays a big role, I saw someone already recommended With Abandon or Not at All, so maybe you might like these two if you haven't read them yet:

* Kisses Sweeter Than Wine (http://archiveofourown.org/series/4516): Texas in July is not exactly where Jensen Ackles has any desire to be, but a job's a job and interviewing Jared Padalecki, the most famous and successful winner of America's Next Celebrity Chef for Saveur magazine isn't something Jensen's going to turn down. He'll do the interview, try not to laugh, and get back on the plane. Jared isn't any happier at the thought of yet another interview with someone who's already made up his mind that Jared's nothing but a pretty face, but the network insists, so fine. He'll do the interview, practice his patience, and be done with it. Funny how things don't quite work out that way.

* Yes Chef (http://archiveofourown.org/works/3199079): The way to an alpha's heart is definitely through his stomach. Omega Jensen may be young, but he's well on his way to being one of the best omega chefs out there. Now if only alpha Chef Padalecki would acknowledge that omegas were tough enough to handle the heat of his kitchens.

I'm not sure if that's it; I'll have to read and find out.
Thanks for the other recs!

Sadly it wasn't Recipe for a Successful Relationship. From what I remember they didn't know each other at the start of the fic and had to be introduced, but i am enjoying the fic.

I have a chef! Tag on my delicious page:

Chef!jared: http://previous.delicious.com/hershey_girl/chef%21jared

I gave you the chef!jared tag, because there seems to be more of them, and any chef!jensen tags appear to be a subset. In addition to some of the stories already reached, may I highlight Food Porn (and it's time stamp) for your consideration... :-)

Oops, autocorrected. "reached" should be "recced"

Thanks for the link; I didn't realize that Food Porn had a time stamp!

Don't know the specific story, but I have some general ones involving food :)

The Treat Fairy (http://bbsock.livejournal.com/1642.html) by bbsock: "Jared hasn't been able to catch the person who is leaving him the pastries - someone is baking Jared the most delicious sweets; one day there was even homemade candy (every now and again there are homemade doggie treats for his babies too). When it first started happening, all his friends told Jared it was dangerous to eat random food that an unknown person was cooking for him, they were worried that he could be poisoned. Jared thinks everyone is just paranoid, no one who bakes likes this is dangerous. Jensen has a crush, and when he gets nervous he bakes. He noticed that his crush - his hot tall neighbor - likes sweets, so he gives all the results of his nervousness to Jared. The fact that Jared seems to like his baking just makes Jensen even more nervous."

Reanimated (http://tigbit.livejournal.com/81373.html) by tigbit: "In which Jared manages real estate in Heaven and Jensen works as Hell’s attorney in Death Trials. Extreme ambiguity and a distinct lack of beer push Jared to accept a different kind of job in a hotter, more southern locale. The boys meet. Hi-jinks and grocery-stealing in Hell ensue. Featuring saints on book tours, love on trial, after-life bureaucracy, and sin. Surprisingly not as cracktastic as it sounds."

Hold the Whipped Cream (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2331665/chapters/5138030) by dimpleforyourthoughts: "International Best Selling Author Jensen Ackles is all kinds of specific with the details of his life. He likes privacy, writing, and coffee; black, no sugar, hold the cream. He’s become a fixture at the local coffee shop, writing from his table every day for the past two years. His vices include routine, neatness, and structure. Jensen doesn’t do messes. Then there is Jared, recent post-grad basket case, who’s been coming in every day for caffeine he doesn’t need and bringing the increasing disaster in his life with him. Jared is a mess in all the ways Jensen is not and so Jensen offers to help Jared in the only way he knows how: by buying Jared a cup of coffee."

Hearthstone (http://mollyamory.livejournal.com/40920.html) by mollyamory: "Jensen lives alone in the small town where he grew up, dividing his time between the bookstore he runs (with no customers), the bar he half-owns (but doesn't run) and the big, expensive dream house (that he bought with money he doesn't know what to do with). He lives quietly at the edge of the circle of friends he went to school with, and avoids everybody else -- until the new guy in town crashes a bike in front of Jensen's store and wedges himself into Jensen's world."
