OK, just opened the first part of the DISCLAIMER series - gotta say, any story that begins with art where the boys are all inked up completely hypnotizes me! Looking forward with wild anticipation to reading this, and will certainly let you know any response, questions, etc. (I don't suppose there's a PDF of this 'verse?)

On a different note: I don't mean to dwell on the sex in the stories (believe me). But I do agree with the person in this fandom who once observed that, Take away the supernatural aspect and the familial relationship, and what you're left with is an epic love story. Which can certainly be expressed without sex. And is certainly ruined with an unrelenting emphasis on sex. So it's a fine line to maintain.

Can't say that I've read too many Gen stories. And the ones I have read (which were highly recommended) were good, very well-written - but there was a resonance and nuance missing for me, that the sexual/romantic relationship provides. As I indicated before, though, a little bit can go a long way.

Anyway, sex with meaning - if you don't know these, try fleshflutter's Courtship, astolat's Worth the Wait, balder12's Mystery Dance, philalethia's Coast On through and A Matter of trust. They're all so well written .

Why, thank you, yes I do realize that there is interesting fic with little or no sex - see my response to marlowe78, above. But it's the sex/romance that adds the nuance to the boys' love story, at least for me. Gen stories - and I've read a good many, highly recommended - are enjoyable, but they pretty much leave me where they found me. They aren't stories that I return to read again and again. Perhaps that indicates a certain shallowness or lack of dimension on my part? . . .

Definitely anything by Dimpleforyourthoughts! Her stories are never too porny and while she does usually include some sex scenes, they almost always advance the plot.

Literally JUST finished re-reading LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND by dimpleforyourthoughts, which is what prompted me to submit this request! You're right - the sex is excellent without being too porny, and it doesn't force the boys' thoughts and reactions (or the plot) to take a back seat.

You are absolutely right: 'well-written' can (and does) vary from person to person. In this instance, as stated in my request, I'm looking for S/D or J2 fanfic where the sex/romantic scenes are integral to the story - either the scene shows me something more about the characters, or it advances the plot of the story in some way. (Preferably without swamping the boat, so to speak.)

Any writer who is gifted enough to make the sex work for the story - instead of being a stand-alone event, a tangent, or an interruption of what's been built with the reader thus far - almost always deserves the praise for a "well-written" story.

I'd rec just about anything by runedgirl, esp. the longer works. She writes beautifully and has great plots, and the sex scenes are hot but usually happen towards the end and with some motivation. You might try The Outlaw Dean Winchester (http://runedgirl.livejournal.com/50019.html) or 143 Alice Grimm Lane (http://runedgirl.livejournal.com/56269.html).

Oh, of course, runedgirl! Her work is a Given in my pantheon, so fantastic - but you're right to point out that her use of sex has motivation and is particularly well-placed within the story. For me, she has never violated the compact between writer and reader, to create a believable story/situation which rings true as a bell.

Recently released from a rehab facility, Jensen's living at a shelter and just needs some help getting his life back on track, and Jared vows to be the one to do just that. Jensen is also an amazing guy and Jared finds himself falling hard after just a week, and he's delighted to find out that Jensen feels the same way. But Jensen still has demons he's fighting and secrets he's keeping and Jared knows that a relationship is the last thing Jensen needs right now. But his heart isn't listening, and when Jared's involved in a stomach churning ordeal, it brings up things from Jensen's past that are revealed to be the causes of all his problems. And Jared doesn't know if he can fix them all.

Between that and living with Sandy, life was satisfactory. He has debilitating food allergies and Jared is his favorite star in the world. Jensen loves his boy, so he lets Jared meet him. The rest is history.

And finally, if you don't mind Sam and Dean hooking up with other people besides themselves as WELL as hooking up with each other (so much angst), I absolutely adore Jassy's Regrets trilogy (http://samdean.archive.nu/series.php?seriesid=95). It's an AU where Sam goes back in time to save Dean from his deal, and everything changes. Lots of angst and Sam-whumpage, but he's also a complete BAMF in this. If you like your S/D pure, it's probably not for you.

You know the sex is there, but she weaves it seamlessly into the story, and it only serves to describe the closeness they share, and Jensen's struggle to accept that he can have what is building between them.

The Gemini Chronicles might be what you are looking or. Both are exceptionally well written, in my opinion, great plots with the type of relationship you describe. There is a third being written when the author has finished Masters Degree.

I have read both of these and LOVED them - did not know that there was a third pending! Hoping the writer graduates this spring with full honors.
