Looking for stories: favoritism  
Looking for stories in which the fact that Sam was John's favorite is discussed. It could be Sam realizing he'd been blind/selfish, Dean internally monologuing his low self-esteem, or another adult observing the interactions - a teacher, a friend, or I would love for it to be Bobby.

In fact, any fics about Bobby trying to make up to Dean John's lack of good parenting is welcome. Especially if Bobby tries to shower Dean with affection since he can see that almost all of John's goes to Sam.

They are older and deal with Sam learning that yes he was John's favorite but these two companion fics are good and the first is from Bobby. These fics made me feel and that is something.

first is Wayward Son in Bobby's POV telling Sam how being John's favorite affected Dean found here

It's not a perfect fit but it's very good: The Long And Lonesome Highway verse by Sorka42. Bobby has a major in the story.
Summary: What if Dean went to Sam at Stanford for help trying to find their father, and Sam said no? Who would he turn to? Would the Devil's Gate still be opened? Would Dean still make a crossroad's deal? Would Dean still meet Castiel?
