I know exactly how you feel. I feel the same way when I come upon a fic with John in it and he is depicted less than favorable. I immediately go to some comfort fics for John, namely dodger. I agree with the first commenter, dodger_winslow is a great place to go to get good John fics. gaelicspirit has written two fics with John. The first (Wearing and Tearing) one is set pre-series, during the Stanford years, the other one (Living on a Prayer) is set in Season 4, and it is more where John pays a visit to a sleeping Dean. That story was written for me, and can be a gut wrencher. But it has great feels where John appears to Dean right after the events of 'My Bloody Valentine' and provides him with the strength he asked for in his prayer at the end of that episode.

I can think of several other fics, but can't remember titles/authors, and I'm not at home, so, when I get home, if no one else has mentioned them, I'll give them to you as well.

I’ve always had the same problem with brutal!John fics! I don’t think he was like that at all. A favorite author of mine who agrees with that is brightly_lit. You can look at her Ao3 page to find lots of good gen wee!chesters, many of them John-POV, that present a kinder, more balanced view of John. A good place to start that’s sweet, short and heartwarming is her fic Family Night:

Coming Down On a Sunny Day (http://maychorian.livejournal.com/136067.html) by maychorian Is one of my all time favorite fics and it depicts John in a favorable light. The link goes to the master post for both Coming Down and Rain Falling Down (scroll down for Coming Down). Both are amazing and very well written stories that feature John as a good dad, but Rain Falling Down focuses on Bobby as a dad to kid!Cas.

Everything I have read by her is really good, and I believe she has more stories with John being a good dad.

I'm totally with you on John. The fics aren't so bad as they could be avoided but it's Show itself that I'm really upset with. Starting with 'Jump The Shark', it's almost like, what do you call it, character assasination? Have you seen pics of that con, I think it was the recent Vegas Con, where they had Sam and Dean together with John and Mary? I love those pictures. If only ... *sighs*

Have you read eloise_bright's fics? She doesn't have a master list but you just click at her supernatural fic tag and it'll bring you to her SPN-where-John-isn't-mean-and-nasty-fics.
