My favorite smart Dean is the AU Infrangible Road (http://archiveofourown.org/works/218788/chapters/329096). Totally gen. summary: infrangible \in-FRAN-juh-bul\ adjective -- not capable of being broken. Although the scenery changes, the path winds onward and detours always lead back to the main road. A Supernatural AU in which John raises his sons in Lawrence.

Summary/Challenge: School has always been a touchy issue for Dean. He's smart but school's not a priority. The teacher thinking Dean's an idiot pairs him with the smart guy in class, so he won't fail and have to repeat, because the teacher doesn't want him in his class again. The smart guy resents being paired with Dean because he feels like the teacher and doesn't want to be stuck with all the work. Dean proves them both wrong and Dean's partner starts to realize that there is much more to Dean than he shows.
