Dean-centric longfic, with convincing "Dean-voice"
I'm in desperate need of Dean-centric longfic, as stated above. I'll take anything over 20k words, the longer the better.

However, what I'm looking for is something with what I call convincing "Dean-voice", by which I mean it can be angsty, but not JUST angsty. It can be sad, but not JUST sad. It can contain Dean!whump, but Dean is still in character, meaning he'll mouth off, swear, call people names. Sam can be in the story or not, but Dean can NOT JUST be worried about Sam. There has to be brotherly banter, by which I mean Dean annoys the Hell out of Sam.

A few writers who did that kind of thing are [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique, rockpaperscissor, chrissie0707 or silver ruffian on ff.net.

I know there are brilliant Dean centric longfic out there ([livejournal.com profile] gaelicspirit for instance), which I love, but that's not what I'm looking for right now.

Dean Winchester is NOT just an angst machine, yo.

Can be AU, can be canon, doesn't matter. Can be crossover. Oh, and absolutely NO wincest, platonic or otherwise, and no Dean/Cas.

Only self recs I'm afraid but I have a couple that might suit your needs:

In Vino Veritas:
http://andiivalo.livejournal.com/1217.html

Wall of Death:
http://andiivalo.livejournal.com/5597.html

They're both long.

*mental headslap*

I've been following your stories, but lost track and didn't realize they were finished!

Thanks for reminding me :)

They've been finished for several years now. ;0)

Not sure if these fit what you are looking for, but you might want to look and see.

Ghosts of Future Past by etrix

Summary: Dean already knows that the future isn't looking good. Sam's sneaking out at night and lying about it. Dean's pretty sure the angels are dicks and that they're lying to him, too. It isn't until he gets a visit from his own ghost that he realizes just how bad it's going to get, and the future that was becomes part of Dean's memories of the past. Surely, with all that he knows, he can fix things—if he can stay alive and sane, that is. A season 4 AU that bumps into seasons 5 and 6. 74,333 words

Also by etrix

Brother Mine

Summary: John was out on a hunt when the call came: Kate Milligan was dead, and John was named in her will as the guardian of her son—his son—Adam. Pissed but knowing his duty, Dean pulled Sam out school during exam week, and they went to Windom in the thick of the Minnesota winter. 7-yr-old Adam was a lot like Sammy at that age, but Dean wasn't ready to accept him as another Winchester. Then the boy's life was threatened and all bets were off. 29,930 words

Aww! Thanks for the rec. :)
[identity profile] juppschmitz.livejournal.com on April 26th, 2016 03:16 pm (UTC)
Hey, thanks so much for the rec!

Ghosts of Future Past is actually one of my favourites :)

And Brother Mine sounds awesome - thanks for the rec!

[identity profile] etrix.livejournal.com on April 26th, 2016 07:34 am (UTC)
These are either Dean-centric or balanced between the brothers, but my bookmark notes always mention how much I liked how the authors did their voices, so hopefully they fit.

Everything We've Yet to Break (http://zubeneschamali.livejournal.com/26806.html) by Zubeneschamali. "What if Sam and Dean knew one crucial piece of information about the future before Dean's deal came due? Would it have changed everything, or would the end result have been the same? AU version of Season Four." 30k words

So a Guy Walks into an Elevator... (http://ficwriter1966.livejournal.com/269193.html) by ficwriter1966. "Dean is trapped in an elevator with an expectant mother and a werewolf wannabe." It's not as long as you might like, but you should browse ficwriter's stuff. It's all very good and gen.

If you don't mind fandom mashups, Syndicated Sci-Fi Show (http://archiveofourown.org/works/958481/chapters/1877013) by claudiapriscus is kinda-sorta set during "Changing Channels". "After getting punted through a number of uncomfortable and humiliating stops along the dial, the boys find themselves unceremoniously dumped on an alien planet in what seems to be some fantasy version of a history channel special." Just over 30k.

Thanks so much for the recs!

I love season 4 fic, so Everything We've Yet to Break sounds perfect! I've read a good few of ficwriter1966's stuff, but this one doesn't sound familiar, so yay! And Jack O'Neill and Dean Winchester in the same fic? Could my day GET any better?

Bb, I think I read most of your stuff with Dean in it. Like I said above, Ghost of Future Past is still one of my favourites. And the opening sequence of Crazy Train? Man, oh man, guts me every. single. time. Few passages in any fic EVER stand out as much as this one.

I sometimes forget to leave comments, so please take this now for all your fic that I read and never commented on.

Oh, and I definitely have to give Third Wheel a go. I'm not too sure I still like Cas all that much, especially hurt!Cas, so I'm a bit hesitant, but wow! Over 100k! Yup, gonna dl ASAP :)

Thanks a million, again!

*blushes* Thanks so much!

I'm glad you've enjoyed some of my stuff. I've certainly had fun writing (some of) it. (Other times I'm a bundle of nerves and procrastination.)

I should warn you that Third Wheel is definitely not gen, but the sexy times are secondary to the characters' stories. *thinks: did I remember to put chapter warnings in?* Maybe I should go check...

[identity profile] juppschmitz.livejournal.com on April 27th, 2016 01:17 pm (UTC)
Lol, no worries, I can handle sexy times just fine, as long as they're secondary.

What I hate is a fic with great plot and characterization where a third or halfway into the story two characters discover they're hot for each other and from then on it's basically positions and gymnastics...

None of the stories of yours I've read were like that :)

...halfway into the story two characters discover they're hot for each other and from then on it's basically positions and gymnastics.

Ohhhh, how well I know that disappointment! (which is why I've bookmarked this page. It should take me some time to read thru all the recs on here.)

Funny, I was just going to post a similar request :)

Definitely read [livejournal.com profile] andiivalo's fics. And here are some other fics you might hopefully like:

Girl, our tastes are just too similar :D

Meaning I know most of your recs :DDD

And they are EXACTLY what I'm looking for! I've devoured every single thing big_pink has written, and Fire in the Hole is my absolute favourite! I even prefer it to Red, it's just so. good. Lazarus Came Forth is just so amazingly amazing that I just don't even know how everybody hasn't read it. There's an absolutely delicious podfic of that one out there, if you're into that sort of thing! Oh, and Blind Spot too. Great to listen to in the car :)

Even though I've read some of gekizetsu's stuff, the one you're reccing doesn't sound familiar, so YAY!

I've literally just downloaded The 1300 Days, and I'm definitely checking out andiivalo's fic. Open, Shut has been so long on my to-read list that I'd all but forgotten about it, silly me :D

Thanks so much for the recs. It's great to know there are like-minded people out there! (Thanks also for your fic-finding tip on tumblr :))

I thought this might happen :) But I figured it's better to rec you fics you probably already know than keep my mouth shut and risk you never learning about them...
[identity profile] juppschmitz.livejournal.com on April 26th, 2016 04:18 pm (UTC)
Oh yes, definitely! There's always something that might escape one's attention :)

Let me retaliate: (ignore if you know them, I've only recently discovered these)

Sins Remembered (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11151885/1/) by CornishGirl ("Dean has always been excruciatingly hard on himself, in memory and in the present. He can't help but remember what he perceives as failings, as things that endanger Sam. What he never remembers, however, what he never even considers, is that things can also endanger him.")

For What It's Worth (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11792002/1/) by chrissie0707 ("Set in Nova42's Providence universe. Dean thinks he's done and Sam knows that. He knows his big brother thinks he doesn't have a damn thing left in him that can continue on or is even worth fighting for but he's WRONG. Language, violence, OCs, future events, and angst as far as the eye can see.") The original story that this is a part of isn't finished yet, so I can't say anything about that one, but this fic here is AWESOME!

And right now I'm in the middle of Lights Out (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3154953/1/), also by chrissie0707. Casefic, gen, great IC voices.

ext_109434[identity profile] hunenka.livejournal.com on April 26th, 2016 04:54 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I've also just recently discovered (and loved) Sins Remembered, but I didn't know chrissie0707's fics. Adding them to my to-read list now :)

You wouldn't happen to have any of big_pink's stuff on pdf, would you? I get confused every time I go to her page and try to figure out what belongs in the 'verse and in what order - or if it's even all on the page. And then there's all those pages to copy & paste. Unless she posts elsewhere?
ext_109434[identity profile] hunenka.livejournal.com on April 27th, 2016 12:32 pm (UTC)
Not in pdf, but I do have one huge docx file of the entire verse, you can download it here (http://www.filedropper.com/redverse-bigpink).
[identity profile] juppschmitz.livejournal.com on April 27th, 2016 12:34 pm (UTC)
Try this link, a bit down the page big pink says what goes where. http://spnstoryfinders.livejournal.com/7831129.html

And you'll find most of her stories in all sorts of formats here:
http://amalthia.mediawood.net/ebooks/search.php (do a search for big pink).
I think a few other short ones are even on ff.net.
