Lately, I've been on a time travel kick. I'm hoping that the fine folks of spnstoryfinders can help scratch my itch.

1. Specific fic: A time travel story I read years ago remains elusive. All I remember is that: Sam travels back in time to the teen!chester days as an adult and works as a hunter, teaming up with John (and possibly some combination of the boys) on a hunt(s); adult!Sam is filled with self-hatred, which comes out as disdain and/or aggression towards young!Sam; and at one point, John compares adult!Sam to a soldier he'd known in Vietnam, who kept body parts (ears?) as trophies.

2. General rec: I'm also looking for fic wherein the boys (Dean, Sam, and/or Cas) time-travel to some era in which they did not live. Here are some examples that I've read and enjoyed:
