I have been a lurker here for quite a while but this is my first time posting a request hopefully this will be enough for someone to recognize what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for what i believe is an older au story in which there is more than one type of werewolf and one type retains their personality when changed. So there is a really awesome original character in the story who is a sentient werewolf and he is hunting another werewolf when Dean accidentally gets in the way. The OC gets frustrated and just on the spur of the moment bites and turns Dean. Then Dean has to leave his dad and Sam, this is set preseries, and go learn how to be a werewolf with the OC.
Dean later finds out John is abusing Sam and turns Sam into a werewolf as well. But there was something weird about the rules for that, like Dean shouldn't have been able to turn him because they were brothers but it worked because of the demon blood? Not sure about that might be confusing stories.
The only other part of the story i remember is Sam going to college and getting really depressed and not taking care of himself.
I think the OC's name might have been Toby, Tobi, Tobius. I'm not sure wish I could remember it would make google a lot more helpful.
I'm also pretty sure but not a 100% that this was a very long story.
