Various General Fic Requests
Hey everyone,

I'm looking for 2 different types of fics, I hope you can help!

1. I've been in the mood for J2 "post-apocalyptic" stories, where earth has nearly been destroyed (war, disease, etc.) and everyone is just trying to survive. I'm looking for something along the lines of "Every Old Town's Just Our Pasts Burning Down" by akitay, just to give you an idea what I have in mind. But I'm also open to other suggestions! I'd prefer J2 but gen is fine as well.

2. Stories that are set on a farm or ranch, or maybe where there is an emphasis on hiking and being outside. It's pretty vague, but I've just cam back from Texas and I want stories that have that open space feeling, or maybe where they are outisde during a storm or something. J2 or Sam/Dean or Gen are all fine

Thx in advance!

For #2, I would highly recommend [livejournal.com profile] oobydooby67 a.k.a. compo67's J2 story The Shortest Distance.

Summary:

The year is 1935 and the Great Plains are hurting. Beaten down, dirt and dust-laden, the people of these Plains live in a constant haze. Jared is twenty years old and struggling to keep his adoptive family alive and cared for. When his husband Cole died, much of the faith in this land died with him, though they have stayed because this is their land. They stay because they belong here. Cole’s cousin arrives in from Montana two years too late, seeking to uproot his kin and change their lives. With nature against man and man against nature, no one remains the same.

I have to second this recommendation. What a gorgeous, haunting story.

Thank you, I read it last week and I liked it a lot. I thought it had a very different feel, but it was really great

Glad to hear it! That "different feel" you mentioned is exactly why I loved it so much.

Our Names in Hearts Into the Warhead (http://infatuated-ink.livejournal.com/91222.html)
After years of training to be a U.S. missileer, Jared finds himself locked in a missile silo underground with only one other pissed off crew member to keep him company. There he and Jensen wait (and wait and wait) for a message from their superiors: an order that will either announce the end of World War III and tell them to return to life on the surface or leave them with the responsibility of sending a retaliatory missile to the enemy, ensuring that no one makes it out alive on either side except for those safely contained in fallout shelters.

UNITED NATIONS FIELD REPORT #00325-DB
The United Nations has been conducting an internal investigation into the activities of Jared Tristan Padalecki (b. 19 July 1982) and Jensen Ross Ackles (b. 1 March 1978), during the period of December 31st, 2007 to January 1st, 2010.

During this three year time frame, we believe that Mr. Padalecki and Mr. Ackles were engaged in espionage, extortion, and the willful destruction of United States Government property resulting in extensive and incalculable losses. The destruction of the international ECHELON program, attributed to Mr. Padalecki and Mr. Ackles, as well as the redistribution of copyrighted, classified and private information in the aftermath of the 2008-2010 Avian Influenza epidemic, has been estimated to have caused or been credited as having caused the restructurization of government policy succeeding the massive demonstrations against the reinstitution of intellectual property rights. While their work has been credited as 'kick-starting' the government rebuilding after the 2012 Sunspots, it remains that their activities were of an illegal, anarchistic and treasonous nature. New Day, New Dawn (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1103570/chapters/2220012?view_adult=true)

Like the Back of My Hand (http://dimpled-sammy.livejournal.com/5251.html)
The year is 2107 and all physical human contact has been outlawed. Jared Padalecki was born into this world and he’s never experienced anything like real human touch. But there’s a secret world that exists on the outskirts of this one; rumors of people who deal and touch in back alleys for the right amount of money. Curious despite himself, he tags along with a friend to witness one of these deals. All it takes is one moment, wrong place, wrong time, and Jared finds himself a part of this secret world, led in by Jensen Ackles. Jensen is everything about this world that gets people killed, but Jared’s curiosity gets the better of him, because while Jared has never been touched, Jensen still remembers what it was like to be touched. Curiosity shifts to passion and Jared’s no longer able to deny himself the need to understand physical touch, and to have Jensen be the one to teach him. In a world where people die to hold hands in the shadows, to steal just one kiss, Jared and Jensen embark down a path that begs the most dangerous and difficult questions of Jared’s life; do you choose to follow the law and deny your instincts because it’s safe? Or do you pursue your inner desires at the risk of getting killed?

Apocalypse: Cancelled (http://jeyhawk-fic.livejournal.com/62095.html)
July 7, 2008 at 2 a.m. in the morning a comet will hit Earth, destroying all human life. Humanity gets 54 hours to prepare and chaos ensues. A chance encounter has straight architect Jared Padalecki saving the life of deeply closeted movie star Jensen Ackles. The unlikely couple cling to each other during what they think will be their last days on earth, but what happens to the relationship they built when the world doesn't end after all?

Have you read We Fell In love In a Hopeless Place (http://nightrider101.livejournal.com/64612.html) by nightrider101? This may also satisfy your outdoors craving--if I remember right they do farming and other outdoor stuff.

There's also Us Until the World Ends (http://archiveofourown.org/works/606062) by anyothergirl415.

For #1

Bring the Rain (http://sinestrated.livejournal.com/52944.html)
In a future torn apart by war, Jared and Jensen were two orphans just trying to survive in the filthy slums of Dallas, Texas. But when Jared was kidnapped and nearly sold to a prostitution ring, Jensen signed himself over to the military’s Supersoldier program, effectively giving up his life and his memories so that the government would keep Jared safe. Now, fourteen years later, Scout Padalecki has arrived on a military base in Boulder, Colorado, intent on finding a Supersoldier with hazel-green eyes, but when he meets Captain Ackles, it quickly becomes apparent that things aren’t going to be as easy as he’d hoped. Struggling with his own emotions and a Jensen who doesn’t remember who he is, Jared must find a way to save them both – before the war destroys everything they’ve worked so hard to build.

Gemini Chronicles (http://archiveofourown.org/series/24097)
In the three-thousand years after Terra, humanity flourished in a Golden Age of prosperity and happiness. Until the silicates. With no means to communicate, no method for diplomacy, mankind fought back against the onslaught with all they had, but they were slowly losing the war. On the brink of extinction, man's greatest hope lies with two young men whose extraordinary abilities have shockingly and violently awoken.

For #2
All the way home (http://archiveofourown.org/works/215789)
When his life went to hell, Jensen left Dallas and moved to the small family ranch to start over. It's a lonely, solitary existence until he hires Jared to help out around the place. Jared's a temptation that's hard to resist and Jensen finds himself beginning to live again. But ranching isn't his calling, and Jared's running from some demons of his own; he's not the type to stick around. They're temporary, and Jensen thinks he's fine with that, but letting go has never been so hard to do.

For #2:

* I Leave Myself in the Dust Where You Walk (http://akintay.livejournal.com/187483.html): Jensen's life is pretty simple: he runs the ranch his parents left him, spends what little time off he has with his best friends, and occasionally drives for miles to hook up with men he will never have to see again. He tells himself he isn't really gay and that he's happy with the life he leads. But then Jared – tall, beautiful and vibrant – arrives on the ranch looking for work, and Jensen begins to question who he is and what he really wants. Featuring: puppies, horses, skinny dipping, mud fights, sex in a hayloft, and meddling best friends.

* The Long Way Home (http://archiveofourown.org/works/264347): Eighteen years old and fresh out of foster care, Jared Padalecki goes looking for answers about who he is and where he came from when he reads his father's name on his birth certificate. But he wasn't expecting to find what was waiting for him... six brothers and a guy he just can't resist.

* Bring Me To Life (http://archiveofourown.org/works/379484): Jared’s a shy young man, whose life has never been easy. His father hates him, his mother drinks her sorrows away and his husband Paul condescendingly treats him like he is nothing more than a beautiful toy. When his husband has to go away on a business trip to Europe for two months, he sends Jared away to a ranch in the middle of nowhere to keep him under control. There, Jared meets people who show him what love, friendship and loyalty mean for the first time in his life. Can he escape his life and finally find some love and happiness for himself?

Lovely request. Hope I'll find some stories for me, too :-) In the meantime, try
This long silence (http://dugindeep.livejournal.com/229907.html): Jensen serves as the young sheriff of Morgan Falls, a town in the middle of nowhere that never has much happen. Until the residents start to turn, becoming violent and attacking one another. While trying to manage the chaos, Jensen is concerned with tracking down his neighbor, Jared, who's been hauled out of town with others in the quarantine. As Jensen becomes more desperate, those around him are clueless to his obsession, and he begins to recall how he and Jared became so close. Their sleepy town will never be the same, nor will Jensen and Jared.
